Taecyeon of popular boy band 2PM has revealed that he has not had a single girlfriend since making his debut, dismissing recent rumors that he is dating Yoona of Girls’ Generation.

The singer sat down for an exclusive interview with Asia Economic Daily, held at a coffee shop in Seoul’s Apkujung district on Monday morning, opening up about his personal life.

When asked what his first question to an actor would be if he himself was a reporter, the 21-year-old star responded, “I would ask if he has a girlfriend.”

“I had one when I was a trainee [at agency JYPE], but I haven’t had any girlfriends after making my debut,” the pop idol said in response. “It’s not like the agency forbids me from dating anyone, but strangely I haven’t been able to get one.”

Taecyeon and Yoona recently sparked dating rumors when they appeared as a couple in a promotional music video for a water amusement park.

He admitted that they are “close friends” but added, “We are both busy… We haven’t had any chance to meet in private settings.”

He also said he is “closest to Girls’ Generation out of all the girl groups” but stressed that they had only met for work and “rarely met on a personal level.”

He went onto say, “I know about the rumors surrounding me. But there are many that are totally out of the blue. It is amazing how such stories get made up.”

Taecyeon, one of the members of idol group 2PM, recently made his acting debut in the KBS2 TV series “Sister of Cinderella” alongside actress Moon Geun-young.

“Cinderella” ends its run on the small screen tonight.

The ratings for KBS TV series “Sister of Cinderella” increased this week, indicating it may continue to keep a firm hold onto its position at No. 1 amongst Wednesday and Thursday primetime dramas.

According to estimates released on Friday, “Cinderella” conquered TV charts this week with its fourth episode scoring ratings of 18.0 percent and 17.7 percent in surveys by TNS Media Korea and AGB Nielsen Media Research, respectively.

The show, which premiered last week, had averaged ratings of 16.5 percent on TNS’ poll and 15.2 percent on AGB’s poll.

Other shows in the running for the top spot, including MBC’s “Personal Taste” and SBS’ “Princess Prosecutor,” both scored ratings between nine to 12 percent yesterday.

“Cinderella” features an all star cast of Moon Geun-young, Chun Jung-Myung, Seo Woo, Taecyeon and veteran actress Lee Mi-sook, portraying the un-fairytale like story about Cinderella’s sister.

Taecyeon of popular boy band 2PM is considering making his acting debut in a TV series, according to a source at broadcaster KBS on Tuesday.

“It is highly likely that Taecyeon will appear in the drama,” the source said of the singer’s possibility to join the cast of the show tentatively titled “Cinderella’s Sister” in English. “Talks are in final stages and Taecyeon is considering the project on a positive note.”

The singer’s agency JYP Entertainment took a more cautious approach though, saying “nothing has been set.”

“Cinderella’s Sister”, a modern adaptation of the fairy tale, will star Korean actors Moon Geun-young, Chun Jung-myung and Seo Woo. If Taecyeon accepts the offer, he will play the role of Jung-woo, who protects Eun-jo, the character to be played by Moon.

Taecyeon, 22, is one of the six members of popular idol group 2PM, who debuted in 2008. The boy band made headlines last year when their former leader Park Jaebeom quit the group and left Korea after sparking national controversy over what he had written on his MySpace page several years ago.

The remaining six members managed to make a successful comeback with their first full-length album “1:59 PM”, which was released in November. The album’s first single “Heartbeat” topped Korea’s music charts for three consecutive weeks.

2PM TaecYeon declares war (?) on his minihompy.

He recently renamed a folder in his photo diary on his minihompy as “The person who circulated the photos, turn yourself in”. This follows the incident which happened last December when his personal photos uploaded privately on his minihompy were leaked online by a netizen.

With his private photos leaked, TaecYeon had closed down his minihompy for a period of time. He was seemingly angry at the incident and posted up messages like “who was it?”, “how did the IiChon photos get uploaded?”. Fans and netizens also tried to mediate things by posting up comments like “let bygones be bygones” etc.

There have been fans who are worried of a loveline that will happen between So Nyeo Shi Dae YoonA and 2PM TaecYeon. They have both been casted for SBS Family Outing 2 recently. Here’s a reason to fans of both side as to why they were casted.

FO2 PD Kwak SeungYeong said recently, “Even though we see the responses whenever we had idol appearance on the show, that is not the only thing we were thinking of when we do the casting.”

Kwak PD said, “TaecYeon was casted for his ‘beastly’ nature. Observing TaecYeon, we see that he has strong competitive mindset and overflowing energy. We hope to see that he will use that competitive nature in whatever situation he is being put through.”

And regarding YoonA, “YoonA is a child who shows endless possibilities. Her ‘SaeByuk’ image she shown in her recent drama, the side of her she shown on variety shows, there is still so many sides of her yet to be shown. We want to discover her endless possibilties through her appearance on the show.”

The 2 were not picked just because they are idols but because they are seen to be young celebrities who will show new charms through their appearance on the show.

Meanwhile, other celebrities like Kim WonHee, Yoon SangHyun etc have also been casted on the show. The first filming will start end-January, and the earliest the show will air is in early-February.

Korean boy band 2PM member Taecyeon [JYP Entertainment]

Korean idol group 2PM’s Taecyeon has become the latest celebrity to join the new cast of variety show “Family Outing”, according to one of the show’s producers on Friday.

“Taecyeon has decided to appear on the second season of ‘Family'” said SBS entertainment producer Nam Seung-yong in a phone call with Asia Economic Daily. He added that they are “planning to cast one or two more people” but added that it is “too early to say who they will be.”

Producers of “Family” have been recruiting new members for the show with the entire original cast from the first season — including main hosts Yoo Jae-seok and singer Lee Hyori — set to leave the show after shooting the final episode next week.

So far, second season cast includes 2PM’s Taecyeon, Girls’ Generation member Yoona, actress and show host Kim Won-hee, comedians Ji Sang-ryul and Shin Bong-sun and actor Yoon Sang-hyun.

The “reality-based” variety show, which premiered in June 2008, came under scrutiny early last year when one of the scripts was leaked on the Internet. Fans were outraged to learn that show was not “real’ and ratings had been declining ever since.

The second season is scheduled to air around late February or early March.

In 2005, a student attending a high school in Boston, America had a future set out for him. He was athletic with a tall height of 185 cm and 76k. His grades were in the top 5% of the nation and he was a member of the National Honor Society. Sophomore year of high school, he received an admissions to the University of Massachusetts. His future dream was to be a doctor or a business man.

With an audition by JYP Entertainment for gyopos abroad, the life of this boy was shaken up. He was at a crossroad. Will he take the road of stability and success in America or gamble with his life in a foreign country in order to become a star?

He immediately put himself on a plane to Korea and led a dark life of an unpredicted future as a trainee. Four years later, he’s become one of the biggest stars to receive the love of teens all across Korea. He’s idol group 2PM’s Ok Taecyeon.

“I was regular just like anyone else. I only knew how to study. But the opportunity to live a different kind of life from everyone else made my heart beat a bit faster. I knew that I was jumping into a completely different world but I wasn’t afraid at all. There’s a saying that you’re going to suffer no matter what when you’re young anyway.”

There’s a new generation arising in Korea called the ‘G Generation,’ calling those born after the 1988 Seoul Olympics. They’re characterized by their inability to go with the flow and their constant need to be different from those around them.

Ok Taecyeon is one of them. Born in 1988, his family immigrated to America during 6th grade. When he came back, Ok noticed “Although I came back after 6 years, I realized that we all had the same outlook on life. There was this urge to build and live in a unique world of our own.”

A psychologist from Yonsei University describes it as “The older generation always molded themselves into the expectations of their family or society and some have even succeeded like that. The young adults of the G Generation instead long to be liberated from the views and opinions of others and look for success in work that truly fascinates them.”

An international relations professor of JoongAng University states “The baby boom and 386 generation were always preoccupied with how they will look in the eyes of others. The G Generation instead focuses on the importance of individuality and the personal happiness of one another.”

Despite the optimism of the G Generation, professionals are often critical and full of worry. A nerve psychiatry professor of Keonkook University explained “The G Generation grew up in an environment where there is always an abundance of everything. In basic issues such as loss of relationships or loss of grades, they are often extremely depressed while handling them when the older generation is able to cope and overcome within 2~3 days. The G Generation also has a harder time than their elders when attending mandatory military service. They receive a lot of stress from just having to share an environment with someone else.”
