[KPOP] SNSD’S NEW SINGLE TOP REAL-TIME MUSIC CHARTS
Korean pop group Girls’ Generation looks set to conquer the K-pop music scene again, topping several online music charts with their new single released in digital format on Monday.
According to web-based music provider Monkey 3 and social networking site Cyworld, the girl band’s latest single “Oh!” — the title track from their new album — took the top slot on their real-time digital singles charts within minutes of its release.
“It was predicted that Girls’ Generation would reach No. 1 since they sweep music charts with every single release,” explained Lee Jung-kyu, an executive at Monkey 3’s digital music division. “It was only a matter of how quickly they would achieve it and this is faster a response than ‘Tell Me Your Wish’.'”
Their second full-length album “Oh” carries a total of 12 tracks including the title track of the same title — an electronic pop tune written by contemporary songwriter Kenzie — and “Show Show Show” which was penned by the composer of Brown Eyed Girls’ hit “Abracadabra.” “Caramel Coffee” which is a duet by members Jessica and Tiffany and “Martian Virus” which features boy band SHINee member Key are also included in the album set for release on January 28.
Girls’ Generation is one of South Korea’s most popular pop groups whose debut mini-album “Gee” produced two hit singles — “Gee” and “Tell Me Your Wish.” They also won several awards at the 2009 Melon Music Awards and the 24th Golden Disk Awards.
