Korean girl band T-ara topped the charts for the first time ever on televised music shows over the New Years weekend.

The group took the No. 1 title on KBS’s “Music Bank” on Friday with their latest single “Bo Peep Bo Peep” and also won the Mutizen Song award on SBS’s “Inkigayo”, which aired live on Sunday.

The girl group defeated six other contenders — including After School, Brian, Eun Ji-won, IU, Park Jin-young and Younha — for the Mutizen award, which is the show’s equivalent of No. 1.

“Thank you so very much,” T-ara member Hyomin said in the group’s acceptance speech. “We would like to thank our parents who always support us during difficult times and thank you to all the fans who came to see us from afar.”

The six-member girl group was trained by Mnet Media, a company affiliated with music channel Mnet which manages many K-pop artists including Lee Hyori and SG Wannabe. They debuted with the single “Lies” in July 2009 and topped various music charts with their collaboration with boy band Choshinsung on “T.T.L (Time To Love)” and “T.T.L. Listen 2”.

Their first full-length album “Absolute First Album”, which was released on November 27, is currently ranked at No. 1 on Mnet’s weekly album chart for the third week.
