|
Korean idols Super Junior have taken over the music charts of several Asian countries with their latest single “BONAMANA,” according to their agency SM Entertainment on Tuesday.
A press release from SM announced that the group’s latest fourth full-length album “BONAMANA,” which had dominated the music programs and charts in Korea, has reached the No. 1 spot on music charts in Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines and Hong Kong.
In Thailand, the boys’ fourth studio release remained the best-selling album on Channel V’s Countdown Asian chart for two consecutive weeks from June 14 to 27, while placing first on the lists of local album retailers such as B2S TOP20, GRAM ASIAN POP TOP10, Look Maew Asian Pop Top5 since going on sale in the country on June 15.
“BONAMANA” has swept numerous album charts in Taiwan as well including on G-MUSIC 風雲榜, FIVE MUSIC, KMCC, CC Record since its release on June 18. It also took the top spot on the weekly music charts for online sites KKBOX, ezpeer during the week of June 18 to 24.
The Korean version of the album which was sold in May ahead of the official licensed version, had also been a hit in the country, topping Taiwan’s G-MUSIC and FIVE MUSIC from May 14 to 27 as well as claiming the No.1 spot on HIT FM and KISS radio’s music charts.
The latest studio release by Super Junior has also maintained the top spot on the Philippines music chart MYX Hit Chart for three weeks and on Hong Kong’s Japanese/Korean Top 10 chart for a week.
The thirteen-member boy band who made their debut in 2005 with their first full-length album “SuperJunior05 (TWINS),” has been considered one of the most popular K-pop acts in the country and throughout Asia with their hit albums “Don’t Don” and “Sorry Sorry.”
They have held two sold-out concert tours in 2008 and 2009 titled “The 1st Asia tour – Super Show” and “Super Show 2,” respectively, with the second tour attracting over a total 198,000 fans.
The group has been promoting their latest track “BONAMANA,” released in Korea on May 13, as a ten-man band with members Kang-in, Kibum and Hangeng having decided to take a break from group activities.
Super Junior released their repackaged fourth album today yesterday which has already taken the No. 1 position on album sales tracker Hanteo’s real-time chart.

SUPER JUNIOR RELEASED REPACKAGED ALBUM TODAY
|
Korean idol group Super Junior will be releasing a repackaged album next week which contains four new tracks including the follow-up single “No Other,” according to their agency SM Entertainment on Tuesday.
SM announced in a press release that the digital sound source for “No Other” will be released on Friday through various music sites including Bugs, Cyworld, Dosirak and Melon with the album due out in stores three days later.
“Other,” a pop dance number, was produced by New York-based musicians Reefa, C-2 and Ryan Jhun who have worked notable hip-hop artists including Fabolous, Ludacris and The Game.
The repackaged version of the group’s latest album “BONAMANA” will contain a total of four songs including “Other” and a remix version of the track “Shake It Up” which was included in the original record.
Super Junior — composed of members Leeteuk, Heechul, Han Geng, Yesung, Kang-in, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kibum and Kyuhyun — debuted in December 2005 with their first studio album titled “SuperJunior05 (TWINS)”.
They became a K-pop phenomenon across Asia, thanks to the success of their subsequent albums “Don’t Don” (2007) and “Sorry, Sorry” (2009), and held two sold-out concert tours in 2008 and 2009 titled “The 1st Asia Tour – Super Show” and “Super Show 2″.
The boys have been promoting the recent hit single “BONAMANA” as a ten-man band with three of its members — Kang-in, Kibum and Hangeng — taking a break from group activities, each for different reasons.
Hangeng is currently involved in a legal battle with SM, Kibum is focusing on his acting career and Kang-in will be going to the Korean military early next month to fulfill his mandatory two-year military service.
The group has been enjoying a successful comeback with “BONAMANA,” which took the No.1 title on KBS music show “Music Bank” for three consecutive weeks and won the triple crown award on SBS’ “Inkigayo.”
Super Junior are scheduled to appear on a special episode of “Music Bank” on June 25, giving their final performance of “BONAMANA.”
Friday’s episode will feature performances by numerous Korean artists to celebrate K-pop music that were popular during the the first half of the year.

A SHORT JOURNEY
SUPER JUNIOR CONQUERS SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE : Some 1,600 lucky fans of the hugely popular Korean boyband Super Junior (SuJu) got to meet their favourite idols at a private music showcase at the Marina Bay Sands convention centre in Singapore on Sunday.
Lines were snaking in the early morning hours as fans – predominantly female – came armed with giant posters and banners, while others donned SuJu-themed T-shirts in show of support.
Now, you might think this showcase is a girl’s thing, but guys, it was totally fun.
The K-pop group – short of members Kangin, Kyuhyun and Kibum – had no trouble wowing fans with their stylish choreographed-based songs.
Sporting a mod look in their all-black outfits, the nine SuJu members opened the show with the titular track of their latest album “Bonamana”, a punchy dance number infused with bouncy African rhythms and club house beats.
With all that high-power dancing and shuffling around the triangular stage, you would not have guessed that these guys had just touched down at Changi Airport barely six hours prior to the showcase.
Following the opener, SuJu member Yesung impressed with a ballad solo “It Has To Be You”, while members of sub-group Super Junior-T roused the crowd again with the trot-inspired “Rokkugo”.
Apart from the song and dance, June baby Ryeowook also celebrated his birthday in advance with fans, who showered him with a cake topped with a piano figurine, and a Korean birthday song. Touched by the gesture, the soft-spoken 22-year-old wished for a concert in Singapore for the fans in return.
After the birthday interlude, the mirthful mood amongst members persisted as they teased the frenzied crowd with a playful number “Pajama Party”. The always gallant Siwon grasped a camcorder onstage – in the midst of the song – to help a crew capture his mates and himself in action.
But no SuJu repertoire can be complete without “Sorry Sorry” – the song that almost single-handedly propelled them to super-stardom and cemented the group’s iconic status across Asia. Driving the crowd crazy with the infectious melody and finely honed dance moves, SuJu members closed the 40-minute showcase on a climatic note.
It seems fans weren’t the only ones charmed by the group. Host Belinda Lee proclaimed herself a SuJu fan at the gig, after confessing flushingly that she too has fallen under the spell of charismatic leader Lee Teuk.
Aside from singing, members including Heechul, Siwon and Shindong have also established firm footholds in the acting and hosting arenas. And they are game to do more.
“We are not afraid or scared to do anything on variety shows. We’ve done too much actually… including outrageous things such as cross-dressing,” said Lee Teuk during a press conference earlier.
The good-humoured group mused out loud that they are toying with the idea of splashing their mates with water while they are asleep and film their reactions for variety show.
All in all, SuJu put out a fantastic showcase – albeit a short one – with outstanding showmanship. And they sound as good as they look. Even for fans who had paid highly inflated prices for the tickets on eBay, it was worth it. – CNA

[SJ] SUPER JUNIOR: WE COULD GO FOR 20 TO 30 YEARS MORE
|
Q: There are a few members missing this time. How does it feel?
Heechul: Of course we’re sad. I also suffered from a bit of depression because of such incidents and I had a very hard time.
Q: A lot has happened within the team. Shindong, you confessed your love through your new album. How did your agency respond?
Heechul: I think they only let it out because they didn’t know what it means. (laugh)
Shindong: If I had written it in Korean, I think they would’ve asked me to do it next time. (laugh)
Heechul: I had talked about this earlier with Lee Teuk but if a fan had bought an album, saw that Shindong had written a code so crack it to see he had asked someone to marry him… We’re lucky if the fan doesn’t rip up the album. (laugh) Shindong actually kept apologizing to us before we gave our comeback performance for “BONAMANA.”
Lee Teuk: There could’ve been mixed responses to what he did but we’re grateful that there have been a lot of good articles on it.
Shindong: I’ve become a romantic guy thanks to them. I’m thankful.
Q: Did you all know about this?
Lee Teuk: Heechul did.
Heechul: I agreed do Shindong when he told me he wanted to do this. I told him it’s great. A guy should confess when he has to. But when I saw what it [the code] read when it was deciphered… was it a sight to see. (laugh) I didn’t know it was going to be that serious.
Lee Teuk: We were doing a photo shoot when he was writing it. He kept looking up something on the computer keyboard.
|
Q: Do you plan on getting married if for example, the song does well?
Lee Teuk: Like getting married if we sell over one million albums. (laugh)
Shindong: I will if we sell under one million. (laugh)
Heechul: I’ll sing the nuptial song. Love so hurts… (laugh)
Lee Teuk: It was only possible because it was Shindong. He’s the one who gave our group a friendly image. Everyone else is slim and good looking so there was a distance between the public and us…
Heechul: It sounds like you’re dissing Shindong.
Lee Teuk: No, I’m not dissing him. (laugh) I’m just saying that we must have Shindong on our team for his friendly image.
Shindong: I’m grateful that you think of me like that. I’m very grateful toward my group because I hear the word ‘pretty boy’ wherever we go. (laugh)
Heechul: Now, let’s not be too grateful toward each other. (laugh)
Q: The group went through a lot before this album came out so I think you must’ve felt different preparing for it. How did you feel while rehearsing?
Eunhyuk: Everyone was feeling different. It was great because we practiced with the determination we had when we first debuted. Donghae and I are in charge of the choreography so we had to take the lead in showing that we were going to work really hard this time so we got almost no sleep preparing for the album this time.
Donghae: I was so stressed that I even had nightmares. I was very shocked because I dreamt that we were rehearsing for our comeback performance but everyone snickered at us.
Lee Teuk: Eunhyuk said he had a similar dream too. I was very surprised that everyone was under so much pressure.
Q: Some poeple are pointing out that your title track “BONAMANA” is similar to your previous song “Sorry Sorry.”
Lee Teuk: I know. But I think that’s our style. It’s an extension of “Sorry Sorry” but also the last word to it.
Q: There’s a dance move which looks like you guys are skating.
Lee Teuk: The choreographer said he thinks of skating when he thinks of Korea. (laugh)
|
Q: The choreography for “BONAMANA” looks like it’s more complicated than before. Did you not have a hard time memorizing it? (laugh)
Eunhyuk: It was supposed to be even more difficult. We changed some of the difficult moves so they’d be easier because we had to keep some of the moves which were key to the song. It was so tough everytime though. It felt like we were continuously running full speed.
Lee Teuk: Isn’t Super Junior great because we can pull off even the most complex choreography? (laugh) The choreographer said our moves this time our energy. The person who came up with the choreography for “Sorry Sorry” came up with our choreography again this time. We’re very grateful to him because he was supposed to join the Michael Jackson tribute concert.
Q: Isn’t the new song hard to sing because you have to go with the bounce from the start. Especially for the members who are used to singing ballad songs, how was it?
Kyuhyun: In my case, I’m better at singing ballads but it wasn’t too bad because I’ve been a dance singer. I have been practicing constantly. And I think I’ve been able to show diverse sides to myself through this album because there are a lot of ballad songs too.
Q: How was it singing Yoo Hee-yeol’s “Good Person”?
Kyuhyun: I was under a lot of pressure because it’s such a classic that I couldn’t mess up on it. We talked with the directors for a long time about the song, saying a certain part should be sung with such and such emotions, that we sounded we’re smiling too much in another segment, that this is a sad song.
Lee Teuk: We edited the song quite a bit because it’s a classic and Yoo Hee-yeol hosts his radio show right after ours so he asked about it too. After our album came out, he said he listened to our version of the song and when we asked “It’s not as great, right?” he said it was good so we were thankful.
Yesung: When I heard we would be recording “Good Person,” I thought it would be Park Hyo-shin’s “Good Person.” (laugh)
Q: Haha, Yesung, you must go on variety shows.
Yesung: I am extremely interested in variety shows. (laugh)
|
Q: Lee Teuk, Eunhyuk, Shindong, the three of you are regulars on SBS talk show “Steel Heart.” But it must be difficult trying to head a segment of the program for several minutes.
Lee Teuk: We seen quite a number of photographs get ripped up (laugh) but the more it happens, the public wants to see more intense photos while the celebrities want to hide more. We were able to udnerstand what a hard time comedians must have. And it’s usually hard to maintain a segment for more than three months. We’re into our ninth month now and it’s very tough. So I’m thinking we should comne up with something different.
Q: Isn’t it difficult getting the guests to dispaly their talents on the show?
Lee Teuk: (Sigh and laugh) It’s really difficult. And many of them say they don’t want to so we have to keep persuading them.
Eunhyuk: I had never been that interested in vareity shows but I started taking part in it little by little because it sounded like so much fun when I listened to it. And then we got to appear on “Steel Heart” but I felt so much pressure to make people laugh. The two led the segment well though. Honestly, I’m doing a lot of freeriding. (laugh)
Yesung: When I see them talk to each other, it really looks like they don’t even have time to sleep because they’re so busy coming up with what to do for “Steel Heart.” Shindong looks at the Internet a lot, Lee Teuk is the one who wraps up the jokes and the segment and Eunhyuk does well in spicing up … I didn’t kow they’d do such a good job.
Q: Some of you do musicals. Have the experiences helped in your singing career?
Yesung: They have really helped a lot. I have got to try acting and do more thorough jobs with praciticing singing live after doing musicals. I’ve also gone back to the determination of when I was a new singer after meeting seniors in musicals. There were about 40 people who were older than me on set so I started by going around with 40 cups of coffee to say hello to everyone.
Sungmin: I think I’ve become more freely on stage after doing musicals. I used to just sing and dance on stage but I have to act and calculate for musicals so when I perform “BONAMANA,” I became more comfortable putting on expressions or actions that I never had before. So I want to keep doing musicla.s
Q: You said on “Steel Heart” that Heechul almost quit Super Junior. Didn’t you guys need time to form some sort of mutual understanding again after having been through so much?
Lee Teuk: We talked a lot while we were on our Asia tour. Everyone usually has a lot of individual schedules to fulfill so we have time to talk before and after our concerts which is when we talk about everything. Heechul and I become very close because of our Asia tour.
Q: Then had you felt awkward around him before?
Lee Teuk: No awkward but we had always told each other that we should only be friends. We didn’t talk much about work together. But with what has happened, we ended up talking a lot about work too.
Heechul: Are personalities are completely opposite from each other and we haven’t really worked together that much either so that’s why we didn’t talk much even when we’re at home together. We even started having different opinions on issues and after wondering why that was happening, Lee Teuk, Shindong and I said we should go back to eight years ago which was before we had debuted, and just let out everything, cursing and all. That’s when things cleared up.
|
Q: What did you talk about?
Heechul: I just felt much better going back to the days we were friends and talking about anything and everything. Before, I avoided appearing on variety shows with other members of my group because it felt uncomfortable and we had our difference of opinions. We would also have to talk about incidents we experienced as a group but there were many things i didn’t know because we were close as friends but not as a teammates working together. But I ended up talking with Lee Teuk and Shindong for about five hours, felt much more comfortable after that, and decided to say what we did on “Steel Heart.” I have a lot of fun on variety shows these days.
Lee Teuk: He calls up producers himself these days and sets scehdules. (laugh)
Q: Heechul, do you plan to continue appearing on variety shows?
Heechul: I’m considering making appearances here and there starting with the second season of “Family Outing” (laugh) but I know that I have my ups and downs when I make guest appearances. And I don’t have that many stories to tell so I know people would get sick of me easily if I go on too many. That’s why I’m taking caution to prepare myself as an emcee. I personally would like to host a program like Super Junior’s “Super Show.” As a joke I tell producesrs and executives that I want to do a show liek that. (laugh) I used to be very anxious. I was under the pressure to achieve something before I go to the army but it felt like I hadn’t quite found my place yet. But once I eased myself out of those feelings, I saw myself on a much larger picture. It’s my dream to act but I’ve also wanted to do a vareity show with my group.
Q: We heard that Kang-in will be going to the army within the year. What about the rest of you?
Lee Teuk: I think we’ll be going next year or the year after that rather than this year. We plan on putting in our best efforts for our careers and go without having any regrets.
Q: You’re idols who are now even considering getting married. How do you feel compared to when you first debuted?
Lee Teuk: We’re aging with the people who liked us from when we debuted, which I think is amazing. I’m also surprised at how I’ve been able to last this long. A lot has happened over the years which has helped me to grow stronger so I don’t think I’ll be shaken up by small incidents anymore. I think we’d be able to last for another 20 to 30 years at this rate. We’ll also have to go to the army soon and of course we should go since it’s our military duty to. I hope we’ll be able to say at the end of the year that we worked hard and have no regrets.

[100524/KPOP] 2PM AND SUPER JUNIOR TOP TELEVISED MUSIC SHOWS
|
Korean boy bands 2PM and Super Junior ranked number one on televised music shows over the weekend.
2PM claimed their second consecutive Mutizen award on SBS’ Sunday music program “Inkigayo” with their single “Without U” while giving out the top spot on KBS’ Friday live show “Music Bank” to Super Junior who recently made a comeback with a new song titled “BONAMANA”.
The groups were up against other singers such as Rain, Davichi and Gummy on both shows.
For their performance on Inkigayo, six-man band 2PM was one member short due to their main vocalist Junsu recovering from a knee injury.
They have been enjoying a successful comeback to the local music scene however, with the song from their latest album “Don’t Stop Can’t Stop” which has topped cable music channel Mnet’s “M! CountDown” for three weeks straight and “Music Bank” for two weeks in a row.
Super Junior, back with their fourth album “BONAMANA” released May 13, sold over one hundred thousand copies of the new record in just eight days of its release.

[SJ] SUPER JUNIOR MEMBERS ARE REALLY SORRY FOR HANGENG
Super Junior has revealed their stance about Hankyung who is currently in a lawsuit with the management company SM Entertainment.
Super Junior met with the reporters in Seoul Kangnamgu Ahpgujung on May 20th afternoon and said, “we are really sorry to Hankyung”
Super Junior is working as a group 10 people and not 13 people for the 4th album activity. Kangin who has received the draft notice is planning to voluntarily enter into the army this July. Kibum did not participate in this album to focus on his acting career. Chinese member Hankyung applied to dissolve his contract and is in a lawsuit with the current management company.
Leader Leeteuk said, “Because we spent long time with Hankyung, we forgot that he is “a Chinese” and we did not listen carefully to each other like families who gather together everyday that do not confess their worries to each other.”
Leeteuk said, “we thought it must have been difficult for Hankyung to go that length. If he changes his mind later, we hope he comes back, because there’s a place for him.”
Unlike Hankyung who is not in contact with the members, Kangin and Kibum continue to cheer the members. The members said, “after a performance ends, they text us. They watch our comeback performances at 3 broadcasting companies and criticize us. They would compliment us saying ‘the choreography looks cool.’ Kangin said that the members looked really cool.”
Meanwhlie, Super Junior is becoming popular with their 4th album title song ‘Miinah.’

[SJ] SUPER JUNIOR’S CUT ON STAR DANCE BATTLE WITH 2PM
I know it’s been a late vid since it’s been around the web for 2 or 3 days but I just can’t help being in awe with my lovely Super Junior’s performance here. Really really really COOL! So cool that I watched it over and over again. What shocked me the most was that Kyu was in here with the 4 of the best dancers of SJ and to think that sometimes he can’t keep up with these 4 fellas (EUNHYUK, SHINDONG, DONGHAE, TEUKIE). You’d be amazed by what was going on here. It’s like, they rock the house down! Version of their perf may seem to be of that of the Jabbawockees but they gave it their best shot and proved to be worth for the win.

By JONATHAN M. HICAPJanuary 26, 2010, 4:20pm

Super Junior’s Super Show 2Korean boy band Super Junior drew thousands of fans when they visited Beijing on Jan. 23.
The concert, part of the popular boy band’s Asian concert tour, was held at the Wukesong Gymnasium. Super Junior sang more than 30 songs, including their big hit “Sorry, Sorry.”
Only 10 of the original 13 Super Junior members performed at the concert including Leetuk, Shindong, Siwon, Sungmin, Yesung, Kyuhyun, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Heechul. The other members—Kibum, Hangeng, and Kangin—were absent due to personal commitments.
Zhou Mi and Henry, members of the sub-group Super Junior M, joined the pop group for the show.
For their Filipino fans, however, the day they’ll get to see Super Junior couldn’t come too soon. It will be a K-pop feast when the band finally holds its concert here at the Araneta Coliseum on April 10.
To date, thousands of Super Junior fans have already reserved tickets with PULP Live Productions, the concert organizer.
In an update, PULP Live Productions said it has started calling and sending email to those who have sent their ticket reservations to know their seating preference. Ticket prices range from P900 to P8,500.

BLABBER’S POST:
Last Friday, I received the news that Super Show 2 is coming in Manila and since I am from the Philippines, maybe just maybe I could go there myself and experience the joy and wonder of seeing my fave Super Junior in action. But some said that it’s still semi-confirmed. I was actually happy with it, thinking that I could still save enough money for the possible SuShow in Manila soon. But early Saturday morning, a very good and lovely friend of mine (hyukxenhae of sup3rjunior.wordpress.com) texted me that it is really confirmed and that our Super Juniors are really coming in the Philippines sooner than I expected. I was really prepared for this actually. I couldn’t just take a leave of absence in my job and the size of my money isn’t enough. You know why? because I am really not prepared for this. I never thought that THIS DAY WOULD COME! oH dear Lord! But I am still praying that soon there will be another Super Show 3 here in the Philippines and I promise myself that by that time, I would be there to witness our gorgeous hunks perf in front of the ELF’s and I.
So here is the text message of my beautiful friend HyukxenHae (ne Ae-in sarang). She said that it is PULP Live Production who would orgranize the event and she made some research about this company/production. What she found out was that they are a pro in holding concerts in the Philippines but mostly rock bands so i guess it’s new for them to actually handle a very famous Korean pop band here. They (PULP Live Production) are communicating directly with SM Entertainment and according to them that this event is sure to go. Official announcements from SMEntertainment will be on sometime in February to avoid overcrowding. PULP Live Production leaked the info to shy away from any possible chaos of reservation of tickets and the like. My Hyukxenhae searched (as I told you awhile ago) about a possible SS2 thread and found it on Wikipedia. It states that the sponsor for the event will be Dream Maker Entertainment.
Official ticket prices will be released on Monday with the seating layout. To add up: PULP Live Production is not affiliated with any, I mean, any fanclub. They are merely an event organizers handling concerts here and they will be the ones bringing SJ here in the Philippines. (as per HyukXenHae’s text to me)
[SJ] SUPER JUNIOR’S SORRY SORRY 3JIB’S THE TOP SELLING KPOP ALBUM IN THE PHILIPPINES
MANILA ― Korean boy band Super Junior’s third album, “Sorry, Sorry,” was the top selling K-pop album of 2009 in the Philippines based on sales.
According to Universal Records Philippines, the album is included on the Top 25 Bestselling Albums list for 2009 based on album sales at Music One stores from January to December 2009. Music One is one of the Philippines’ biggest record retail chains.
“Sorry, Sorry” is the only K-pop album on the Top 25 list and is at No. 10 behind albums by artists including Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Black Eyed Peas.
Universal Records said “Sorry, Sorry” debuted at No. 1 on the Music One Album Chart just three days after its release in last September. It also became No. 1 at Odyssey Records stores in September.
Super Junior holds the distinction of being the first K-pop artist to reach No. 1 in album sales in the Philippines.
The “Sorry, Sorry” album became a gold record three months after its release in September. It is the first K-pop album to go gold in the Asian country, according to Universal Records.
The Mini-album “Super Girl” from Super Junior M, a subgroup of Super Junior, also reached No. 1 in Music One and Odyssey Records stores in the Philippines.
“Sorry, Sorry” is Super Junior’s best-selling album in Korea. It was released in March last year and quickly went to No. 1 on the Hanteo Charts.
Super Junior was also the biggest winner at the 24th Golden Disk Awards, bagging three awards including the Disk Daesang Award, for album of the year, and the Samsung YEPP Popularity Award.
The song “Sorry, Sorry” was voted No.1 on the Top 100 singles of the year by Taiwan’s Hit FM radio station. “Sorry, Sorry” garnered close to 250,000 votes to beat Jam Hsiao’s “Princess” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”. (Written by Jonathan Hicap/Korea Times Correspondent)
