Big Bang member Taeyang [Official Taeyang website]

The limited edition of Big Bang member Taeyang’s new album has sold out on the day of its release, according to the singer’s agency YG Entertainment on Friday.

Offline and online record stores reported that the deluxe version of Taeyang’s first full-length album “Solar” sold out within moments of going on sale, with the servers of several online retailers shutting down from too many shoppers logging on simultaneously, YG said.

“Some of the fans who were unable to purchase the limited edition even called our suppliers directly to inquire whether more copies would be produced but we were set on releasing only 30,000 copies and have no plans to produce more,” explained YG.

A regular version of the album has been set to go on sale a week later but YG is considering pulling up the release date by a few days due to the high demand.

Meanwhile, the title track “I Need a Girl” and other songs from his album such as “You’re My,” “Just a Feeling,” “Superstar” and “After You Fell Asleep” have placed within the top spots on numerous web-based music charts.

Taeyang, whose real name is Dong Young-bae, made his debut as a member of Big Bang in 2005. He is the first member to debut as a solo artist, releasing his first mini-album “HOT” in May 2008.

He also released two digital singles “Wedding Dress” and “Where U At” last November.

He gave his comeback performance on Mnet’s televised music show “M! Countdown” yesterday, singing “I Need a Girl,” “You’re My” and “Just a Feeling.”

U.S. hip-hop artist Flo Rida (left) and Korean pop idol G-Dragon [Twitter]

U.S. hip-hop artist Flo Rida informed his fans via Twitter that he put on a “great show” in Korea with K-pop idol G-Dragon over the weekend.

Flo Rida posted several “tweets,” or messages on popular social networking and micro-blogging service Twitter, during the time he was in Seoul for the concert, where he performed two shows on May 21 and 22.

G-Dragon, the leader of popular Korean boy band Big Bang, had appeared on the show as a guest performer on the latter night.

The American rapper appeared satisfied with the Seoul gig and spoke highly of G-Dragon. In a post dated May 23, he wrote that he performed a “great show with G-Dragon from Korea” and also sent out “Much love to my fans in Korea.”

The joint performance by the two musicians put to bed all the negative criticism that had dogged G-Dragon last year, when he had been accused of plagiarizing Flo Rida’s song “Right Round” in his hit single “Heartbreaker.”

Fans are responding favorably to the Seoul concert as well — one fan commented “You and GD killed the stage!!” while another wrote “GD is a beast,” meaning they both gave fantastic performances.

Julia Beverly, editor of U.S. hip-hop magazine Ozone who accompanied the American singer to Korea, even posted a picture of Flo Rida and G-Dragon together prior to their performance, on her Twitter page.

Flo Rida, whose real name is Tramar Dillard, shot to international stardom with the success of his debut single “Low,” which spent eleven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart.

His sophomore album “R.O.O.T.S.” featured the single “Right Round,” which became an instant hit and sold over 636,00 copies in one week.

[KPOP] G-DRAGON QUESTIONED BY KOREAN AUTHORITIES

Korean pop idol G-Dragon [Asia Economic Daily]

Korean pop idol G-Dragon was summoned by Korean authorities last night and questioned for about an hour, according to the criminal investigation department at the Seoul East District Court.

In a phone conversation with Asia Economic Daily on Friday, the department official explained that they had confidentially brought in the singer to investigate the recent controversy surrounding his solo concert, for which he was accused of displaying sexually explicit behavior during the performances.

The leader of idol group Big Bang, who showed up at the court around 8:45 PM, was questioned by authorities for approximately one hour.

The hour-long questioning was regarding the singer’s concert — held December 5 to 6 at Seoul’s Olympic Park — where he had allegedly shown sexually suggestive dances and body movements. Authorities are looking into whether the choreography had been planned in advance by agency YG Entertainment and whether they were aware that presenting such obscene behavior might suggest sexual acts.

In early December, Korea’s Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs had asked prosecutors to investigate the 21-year-old musician on two counts; whether he had violated Korea’s teenage protection law by singing a song which had been pronounced as hazardous media material for teenagers and whether he had committed a criminal offense by displaying sexually suggestive dance moves during a performance.

Some 1,000 fans and concert attendees had filed a petition at the time, asking prosecution not to investigate or press charges against the singer. Others had voiced that entertainers should be allowed to express their creativity.

Yang Hyun-suk, President of YG, had issued a public apology saying that he will take full responsibility should the matter cause any legal problems.

G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, is the leader of five-member boy band Big Bang, one of the most successful pop groups in Korea. Known for writing most of the group’s songs, he released his debut solo album “Heartbreaker” in August 2009, which produced four hit singles and became one of the best-selling records of the year.

Prosecutors are set to wrap up the investigation next week.

[KPOP] G.DRAGON EXPOSES FEELING ON THE CONCERT ISSUE

[BreakingNews] GDragon exposes his feelings on the concert issue

Posted Image

GDragon had many labels in the past, some good and some bad. Big Bang’s leader. The youngest boy who was participating in HipHop albums by the age of 13. One of the top 8 composers that shined in 2008. Placing first in all possible music charts with his solo album. 2009’s greatest selling record. Plagiarism issues. Known for interesting fashion. And the most recent one, concert issues.

There had been a set of associated words with GDragon. However, he was the boy that went on along his way without any rest in the music world, but there will always be the critics commenting on his actions. Through an interview, we learned about what kind of a path he kept on going from that one little boy to a star that is loved by many people.

People who are close to GDragon say that he is “very detailed and trustworthy.” So detailed that he would check daily on every single detail of his album and watch the concert stage from the 3rd floor to make sure that his fans wouldn’t miss out on a thing. A person like that was slammed down on his first concert. It was all because of the sexy performance he displayed during his own song, ‘Breathe.’

GDragon stated, “I believe that since I am a singer for the public, I know that it is right for the public to judge me. No matter what I was trying to show, it was my fault if it [the concert] was disturbing and high level. I was only trying to show a stronger appearance because it wasn’t a public show, but a concert performance. I’m really sad that the response was different from what I expected.” While he was preparing his first concert, he was excited. Since the age of 13 entering YG Entertainment, this was the stage he was dreaming about for 10 years. He pondered on the videos to show, and explored each section of the audience seats to view how the stage would look from there. Big Bang’s stages also made him excited, but this solo concert that had his own name on it as a single singer meant the world to him.

“Seriously, I don’t know even remember how hard I rose up to this level for my solo concert. I might be saying this because I’m still young, but really when this concert ended, I really thought to myself, ‘I would want nothing else more.’” But, when I turned on the internet the next day, my heart crashed to see only the parts of concert torn apart with the issues.” He confessed that he faced sadness as a singer when he realized that the performances that he worked hard on was torn apart and that one cut represented his whole concert. Was it to much for him to show different sides of him to the audience that couldn’t easily access the concert?

“Instead of tears, fake laugh came out as I thought, ‘will I be cursed so that anywhere I go, I get bashed at?’” I didn’t want it to go this far. I just wanted to show my fans the different sides. In the performances I showed cute sides, and handsome sides, but why did it only get cut into this part? All the news paper articles had that strong word in them, and I was embrassed and sad that my parents might see these articles that only had one side to them.” He added on, “My thinking was short. However I just wish that people wouldn’t criticise me just for that one section. The song ‘Breathe’ in general is about not wanting to wake up from a dream because my ideal woman appears in them. Because of those lyrics I had a bed on stage and showed that I was searching my dreams. But the final product the public saw was, ”sex demonstration.” I was shocked and thought, ‘I’m not this, but I guess this is how I look to the people,’ realizing it then.”

He finally added, “Whether I get praised at, or slammed at, I think that is proof that the public is showing interests toward me. I have to understand the fact that telling me what part I did wrong helps me to improve in the future. The way I could he accepted and win praises is to do better on the next album. This once again reminded me that I have to do my best on the Big Bang album coming out this year.”

Nulsaranghae: Please be respectful when commenting. Realize that GDragon confessed his feeling on the issue himself.
