[100607/ARASHI] SHO SAKURAI TO STAR IN A MOVIE WITH AOI MIYAZAKI
Sakurai has been cast as a doctor for the film, which is based on a bestselling novel published last year by an actual doctor named Sosuke Natsukawa. Ichito Kurihara (played by Sakurai) is a local physician in Nagano who meets an elderly woman with terminal cancer. His interaction with her leads to his own growth as a doctor and as a person. Miyazaki plays Sakurai’s beloved wife Haruna, who works as a photographer.
The staff for the film includes the production team from the movie “Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu” and screenwriter Noriko Goto, whose credits include the dramas “Blackjack ni Yoroshiku” and “Team Batista no Eikou.”
“Kamisama no Karute” will be released during the second half of 2011.

On Music Station’s May 28th broadcast, it has been announced that Arashi, AKB48, Meisa Kuroki, XIAH Junsu and JUJU will be filling up the guest lineup. XIAH Junsu, from popular group Tohoshinki will be performing as a solo artist for the first time in the program.

[JPOP] ARASHI RELEASES NEW SINGLE IN KOREA MARCH 17

Japanese pop group Arashi will be releasing their new single “Troublemaker” in Korea today, according to agency SM Entertainment on Wednesday.
SM said in a press release that “Troublemaker” will be released in Korea in two versions; a regular CD and a limited edition composed of a CD and DVD.
The DVD will contain the music video for “Troublemaker” as well as making-the-video footage while the CD will feature an additional track titled “One More Step.”
“Troublemaker”, the group’s latest single released in Japan earlier this month, sold over 540,000 copies in its first week to top Oricon’s weekly single chart.
The pop track was also featured in popular Japanese television series, “Tokujo Kobachi!!”, which starred one of the group’s member Sakurai Sho.
Another track on the record will be “Shake It Now”, which was used as the theme song for several Japanese television programs as well as for the recent 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.
Arashi — composed of members Masaki Aiba, Jun Matsumoto, Kazunari Ninomiya, Satoshi Ohno and Sho Sakurai — made their debut in November 1999 with the eponymous single “Arashi”, which became an instant hit and sold over half a million copies in the first week alone of its release.
The boy band has released eight studio albums, three compilation albums and 29 singles to date, of which 25 have reached No. 1 on the Oricon singles chart.

[JPOP] ARASHI BREAKS HALF MILLION WITH “TROUBLEMAKER”

Young R&B singer Shota Shimizu topped the album charts with his second album, “Journey,” which sold 57,000 copies. Not far behind it was Remioromen’s “Kachou Fuugetsu” at 53,000 copies.

[JPOP] ARASHI’S AIBA AND MIZUKAWA, TOGETHER?
This week’s issue of FRIDAY magazine claims that Arashi’s Masaki Aiba (27) and actress Asami Mizukawa (26) are dating. In fact, their relationship is said to have started about three years ago.
Late last month, Mizukawa was seen visiting Aiba’s apartment building, with a mask covering part of her face. She was also seen visiting the same apartment in October and November of last year.
Mizukawa appeared in the 2004 movie “Pika**nchi Life Is Hard Dakara Happy,” which starred the members of Arashi. According to FRIDAY, Mizukawa and Aiba started dating three years ago, but they broke up in the fall of 2008 because of their busy careers. However, they got back together about a year later.
This is not the first rumor involving Mizukawa and an Arashi member. Last month, another magazine claimed that she and Kazunari Ninomiya (26) were going out after they were seen sharing a meal in Shibuya.
The management agencies for Aiba and Mizukawa said that the two are good friends, but they are not dating.
[JPOP] “ARASHI NO SHUKUDAI-KUN” TO END ON MARCH
With the popular boy band Arashi getting another prime time show this spring, NTV has decided to end the group’s late night show “Arashi no Shukudai-kun.” The network announced that the final episode will air on March 22.
“Arashi no Shukudai-kun” has been on the air since October 2006, and has received high ratings despite its time slot.

The Sankei Sports newspaper reports that Arashi band member Satoshi Ohno will star in a live-action television adaptation of Fujiko Fujio A’s Kaibutsu-kun supernatural action manga this April. The story follows the prince of Kaibutsu Land, Kaibutsu-kun, as he decides to go to the human world as part of his training to become the king. Fujiko Fujio A is best known for co-creating the classic manga Doraemon.
The new series, which is the first live-action adaptation of the manga after two animated series, will run on the NTV network. The production will use computer graphics and special makeup to transform Ohno into a kaibutsu (monster).
The original manga ran in Shonen Gahosha’s Shonen Gaho magazine from 1965 and 1969. Later incarnations ran in Shonen Gahosha’s Weekly Shonen King (1967-1969) and Shogakukan’s CoroCoro Comic (1980-1982). Tokyo Movie Shinsha animated the story into a 1968-1969 television series and Shin’ei Doga animated a remake from 1980 to 1982. There was also an anime film in 1981.

Arashi has been extremely busy these days, what with their 10th anniversary concert, new releases, TV appearances including several members filming dramas. But in private Matsumoto Jun has been spending much of his time on a ‘hobby’ which some might find tedious. Let’s look at what he said during his radio program ‘JUN STYLE’ broadcast on September 12th…
During the summer, Arashi had participated in an event hosted by a TV station. While heading to their ‘VS嵐 / VS Arashi’ event area [‘VS嵐 / VS Arashi’ is a weekly TV program hosted by Arashi], the [popular RPG] Dragon Quest booth caught their attention. Lots of different Dragon Quest merchandise was being sold.
“I hadn’t come up with a good idea for a birthday present to give to Nino [Ninomiya]. Then I found Nino looking really interested in the merchandise.”
From among the merchandise, Matsumoto bought a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle that Ninomiya had especially liked. He told Ninomiya that he was buying it as his birthday present. But for some reason Matsumoto added that he will complete the jigsaw puzzle and give Ninomiya the finished product. Now, solving the puzzle has become his daily chore.
But the puzzle seems to have been more difficult than he had first thought…
“I’m barely managing to put together the letters of the title ‘Dragon Quest’. I’m nowhere near working on the characters.”
“I haven’t played with jigsaw puzzles for ages. It’s really hard work.”
Right now Ninomiya is playing ‘Dragon Quest IX’ on his Nintendo DS. Matsumoto said that he plans to give the puzzle before Ninomiya finishes the game. Just imagining Matsumoto spending almost all his spare time cooped up in his house and mulling over a jigsaw puzzle must make fans smile.
Let’s hope he can complete the puzzle soon!

“I’m not the sexy one in Arashi-.” It was a surprising offer for him though he worked out with his personal trainer and he threw down his looks-great-without-clothes upper body and even his butt. Unexpected sexy intelligent caster with nothing on, fans must be excited.

He had this offer during last fall. This was an amazing project for him too. “I never expected this. When I was offered I thought ‘No way’!” He took this offer full of drive because “Surprise is part of our job. This is a big challenge for me also.” He has been working out from last August for Arashi’s national tour for 10th anniversary since their debut then his nude offer fall in. “If I’m showing my body, I want to be prepared” He worked even harder.
Photoshoot was in the early December. He is pretty confident “I could relax because the light from the window was so beautiful” Masahiro Kumai, chief editor of an an, acclaimed “Pure, sexy, androgynous but with scent of a man.” Sakurai talked a lot about sexiness of women “I guess it comes from her life style or way of life.”

CLIPS 1999-2009′ of popular group Arashi, who made their debut in the 2009 60th NHK Kouhaku Utagassen, has returned to the #1 position on the DVD (Overall) weekly charts 10 weeks after it made its debut at #1. The record of the longest interval for a music DVD returning to the #1 position was previously 3 weeks, held by Utada Hikaru’s ‘SINGLE CLIP COLLECTION VOL1′ which was released in January 2000, making this the first time in 10 years that the record has been broken.

NTV announced on the 10th the list of casters that will represent the station at the Vancouver Olympics, set to start on February 12th (13th Japan time to account for the time difference).
The main caster will be Arakawa Shizuka, gold medalist at the Torino Olympic Games for figure skating. The special caster will be Arashi’s Sakurai Sho. Sakurai will be reprising his caster duties following the 2008′s Beijing Olympics. “To be able to witness such a moment in history, it will always be something I’ll hold close to heart,” recalls Sakurai. There’s lots to be enthusiastic about in Vancouver as well. “I’d like to report the ‘crystals of athletes’ thoughts’ like snow shining in the sky in Vancouver,” said Sakurai. As well, Ogiwara Tsugiharu, who competed at the 1998 Olympics Games held in Nagano, will be taking on the caster role for the third time.

Oricon’s year-end sales rankings for 2009 are out, and the results confirm that Arashi is the top selling artist of the year. They had the #1 single, the #1 album, the #1 music DVD, and were #1 for the first time in artist total sales. In the 42 years of Oricon’s history, no one else has topped all four categories in the same year.
Counting sales of singles, albums, music DVDs, and music Blu-ray Discs, Arashi grossed a total of more than 14.46 billion yen. At #2 this year was EXILE, who topped the list in 2008 with 19.58 billion yen in total sales.
In single sales, Arashi had the #1, #2, #3, and #5 releases, with “Believe / Kumori Nochi, Kaisei” in front at nearly 657,000 units sold. The only other artists to occupy the top three spots were Pink Lady in 1978 and Hikaru Genji in 1988. Arashi are the first to have four of the top five, as well as the first to hold the top two spots in back-to-back years.
Their “All the BEST! 1999-2009″ album sold over 1.43 million copies. In DVD sales, they were #1 and #2 with “5×10 All the BEST! CLIPS 1999-2009″ (591,000) and “ARASHI AROUND ASIA 2008 in TOKYO” (428,000).

Currently celebrating their 10th anniversary, Johnny’s Entertainment group Arashi has seen their popularity skyrocket in the past year. It seems they have no intention of slowing down as they have been added to the lineup for NHK’s Red and White Singing Contest.
Their newest single ‘My Girl’ has also become a hit, successfully earning them the top 4 spots on this year’s Oricon singles chart with the highest first week sales. ‘My Girl’ has reached number 3 on the charts, just after ‘Ashita no Kioku / Crazy Moon’ and ‘Believe / Kumorinochi Kaisei’. The fourth spot also belongs to them with their previous single ‘Everything’. They seem to have effortlessly dominated the sales in the singles chart for 2009.
In addition, fans from all over the world were thrilled when they announced their appearance on NHK’s Red and White Singing Contest. It is the first time that Johnny’s Entertainment will be having four groups perform on the show. Arashi’s popularity has continued to rise within this year, especially riding on the success of individual projects from all five members. To be invited to perform at the 60th Red and White Singing Contest during their 10th year seems very appropriate.
